A Few Words About Ayutthaya Gallery...
Ayutthaya Gallery was born in 2019, but the idea of creating a place to share my passion for viewing and collecting Buddha statues from SE Asia was firmly planted much earlier, when I first viewed a statue of Buddha at the Cleveland Museum of Art, in my native Ohio. That image had an expression of serenity and calm I had never seen before. I found that statue's tranquil gaze, realized in bronze and timeless in its appearance, utterly captivating.
Fast forward 40 years and, after a successful career in the fields of Architecture, Interior Design and Furniture Design & Production, I decided the time had come to pursue my passion for collecting antique Buddha statues, in particular those from SE Asia.
Ayutthaya Gallery takes its name from the ancient capital city of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, now present day Thailand. At the height of its power & prestige, Ayutthaya was one of the world's largest, wealthiest and most cosmopolitan cities.
The statues shown here are from not just Thailand, but also from Burma, Cambodia and Laos. All are original, at least 120 years old (many much older!) and genuine art treasures. Each statue also reflects my deep and genuine appreciation for the art form of creating an image of Buddha.
